Rose's Backyard (2024)

Rose and her dog wander a deserted world, using the Waikato farmland as their big backyard. But while wary of lurking threats, she just misses being a kid.

This film was made as part of the Misty Flicks Film Festival, Te Awamutu, New Zealand. The Misty Flicks Challenge was a short film competition within the festival, for entries less than10 minutes, made especially for the Challenge, and featuring a character called 'Volt'.

We opted to make a film with only our family involved. The kids and the dog starred in it, I did most of the technical stuff, and my wife and I were extras. Friends and neighbours helped with gear and by allowing us to film on their properties, but otherwise it was a Harvey family project.

We were very happy to receive Best Actor, Best Screenplay and Best Film in the Misty Flicks Challenge, but are mostly just glad to have this home movie as a snapshot of our family as we were in 2024.
